A summary of Blendeo, an app for creating long exposure photos and videos
In early 2019 I briefly rejoined my old partners at Flixel Photos Inc. to design Blendeo.
Blendeo is a universal iOS app for creating long exposure photos or videos, using either a motion blur or light trails effect. The goal was to take the guesswork out of long exposure, which we accomplished using an innovative new Exposure Time control.
As the Exposure Time dial is moved, Blendeo provides real-time feedback via the image preview and unique timeline exposure bar. This simple yet powerful interface provides photographers with the ability to quickly and easily experiment with a variety of long exposure effects.
In addition to being a universal iPhone/iPad app, the editing controls were designed to work in both landscape and portrait orientations. Much like Flixel Cinemagraph Pro, Blendeo has been frequently promoted and praised by the App Store.
Blendeo was also designed to work in tandem with Flixel Cinemagraph Pro, either by adding long exposure effects to an existing cinemagraph, or by sending a long exposure video to the Cinemagraph Pro app. By combining these two apps, some incredible art can be created:
Props to Sonia Kimpton for her tremendous work on the Blendeo logo. Flixel Cinemagraph Pro was frequently praised for its logo, so we wanted the logo for its companion app to similarly show its story using a bird silhouette. Flixel Cinemagraph Pro uses a hummingbird to hint at a cinemagraph effect, so with Blendeo we chose a peregrine falcon to show a long exposure effect. Thus, Hermano the Hummingbird got a sibling in Fratello the Falcon:
Blendeo can be found on the iOS App Store. Give it a shot!
